Party and Quilt

We were invited to Cousin Beth's for cake and ice cream for her birthday. We thought the little kids might be there, but that was not to be. Anyway we had a lovely visit all afternoon. We don't get to just sit and talk like that very often.
I had asked my Aunt Cris if she had anymore quilts in her as we were going to need one for the new baby. She said yes, but she was getting low on stash. So I brought my stash with me today and we looked through it. We decided to go with these pieces. Then if it is a girl we will put lavender on the back and aqua if it is a boy. I just wasn't sure who is making the quilt top as I brought the fabric back home with me.

House Shopping

We decided against the original house we intended to buy. It had some issues that could take a long time to resolve. So we are looking at other houses. It is kind of fun. We have a couple that we really like. One is still a possibility as the other one now has a sale pending. Got ourselves a realtor who is helping us.

Doug

I think Doug is showing off his beard in this picture. A little birdy told me he may be coming home sooner than anticipated. It seems the sub he was on is "broken" and can't be used. Guess that is what happens when it doesn't watch where it is going and it hits a ship. Anyway it gives Doug a great story to tell someday. And Heather is ready for him to come home as well as are the furkids.

Amazing

When we think of bad things we don't think they are amazing. But I got to tell you the car crash I witnessed yesterday morning on the freeway was amazing. I did not know that an SUV could fly. Traffic wasn't as heavy as it is sometimes during morning rush hour (and probably a good thing). To me it appeared that this black SUV was making a lane change and did that oh shit someone is there thing. The white SUV in that lane also swerved over. At that time I did not know that the black one had hit the white one. So then the black one 360's back across two lanes of traffic. I thought maybe it had blown a tire until it started going up the embankment backwards. The momentum took it all the way back onto the freeway three lanes in a roll. Landed on its tires. That was freaking amazing. Now I stop and hope that all the drivers behind me see what is happening and don't take out my Mini. They stopped. I had pulled off the freeway and noticed that no one was going to the SUV. So I hop out and run across the freeway. Now I am a deer in the headlights kind of person. Don't have a clue what to do in these situations. The lady was conscious and I told her to shut the engine off even though it wasn't running. It is the only thing I know to do. I tell her to just not move and I will stay with her until the ambulance gets there. She has a little blood and I have no clue as to where it came from, but it isn't much. She tells me she wants to call her man. I don't have a cell phone. I ask her if she has one and look around for her purse. I never saw a purse. I did not see a purse in the debris on the road. She told me she didn't need an ambulance and I said she did and had to wait. She couldn't have gotten out her door anyway as it was blocked by the backseat door which had flown open as some point and was crushed. The ambulance, police and fire department were there within minutes.
There were two of us who witnessed and stayed. We got put in the backseat of a cop car. The cop did not seem to find me funny when I told him not to shut the door. Hey I am not going to be trapped in the back of a cop car. Anyway we made our statements. He then thanked us for staying. I commented that we were suppose to as it is the law. Again he gave me that look that says I am just stupid.
And as a sidenote, the lady driving the white SUV was fine...just a bit shook up.

My Life is Never Boring

Thought I would share. We are gaining a new member of our family. Cassie is pregnant. Oh boy....now this is not the way I would have wished for them to do this, but.....it is what it is. And the baby is coming. Myk does have a possible line on a job making some good money. We have our fingers crossed that that all works out. Whatever happens I just feel it will be fine.
That said I am kind of excited. This will be the child of my child. I already am a Nana to Elizabeth and Adrianna, but I think I will be more involved with this one. It starts with Cassie and Myk living with us. And Cassie doesn't feel the need to only spend time with her family. Yes, that was a slam on Jason.
Cassie just feels like part of our family. The baby due date is tentatively Oct. 20. We'll know more after the ultrasound this week.

House

Jodi's landlord is raising her rent. He did this last year also, but backed off when she then planned to move. Gave her another year at that rate and then raised it $100 a month this year. Jodi isn't working right now, but it looking. She has the rent money set aside so it is not a problem, but the increase hurts.
That said we have been walking. Looking at houses for Tanya kind of. Tanya isn't totally ready yet to buy. So we see this house over by the park. Needs a little bit of work. As fat as we can tell cosmetic only. Jodi pops off with you buy it and I'll rent it. Well that got us thinking.
I think we have decided to buy the house and let her rent it. She also would help us with the clean up and painting. The great thing about Jodi is she always pays her rent and she maintains where she lives wonderfully.
Yesterday we had the realtor let us in so we could see it. Still looks like cosmetics, just a few more than we could see through the windows. I guess if we are gong to do this it is time to line the ducks up.

Garden

The chicken manure has made it here and has been spread on the garden. Dave ran electric wire around the garden to keep the dogs out of it. Hope it works. Now it is time to look for onion sets, seed potatoes and the little plants I like to buy already started.

I'm Amazed

Cassie and I stopped at the grocery store. She wanted to pick up some milk and eggs. When we got to the eggs she grabbed a package and was going to put them in the cart. I reminded her to check for broken eggs. She commented on Myk always reminding her of that also. It amazes me when I hear about things that he learned from me through osmosis.

Again?

It is snowing again. We woke up with snow yesterday and then again today. Crazy weather.

Yard

Took a little stroll around the yard this afternoon. Dave was doing a little weeding in the blueberry bushes before he mulches them. Noticed they are all budded out. That in turn took us to the lilacs and they are budding out. Went over to the garlic-bed and saw that garlic is up about four inches above the mulch. May soon be time to pull the mulch off, but not today. We woke up with snow this morning and it is still chilly out there. My to-do list includes getting a load of chicken manure for the garden. Hmm. Wonder how we are going to keep the dogs out of it while it is waiting to be tilled in. Nothing like the aroma of crap on a dog in bed. Nope...... The crocuses are in bloom and are just beautiful this year. I noticed the tulips coming up. All in all it looks like a good beginning to spring.

Still Walking

We had a change in the weather which hasn't been conductive to nice walks. But Friday was beautiful so we managed to get one in. Jodi and Zach went with us. We did a longer walk than normal and Zach got tired and hungry. Before we called it quits we went over to the park and Zach and Dave climbed the rock.

7 year-old basketball

Zach is playing basketball this year for his first time. I thought I had better get over and watch a game as the season ends next Saturday. I was pretty impressed. Zach is the smallest guy on the team, but he sure can shoot.
