Bits and Pieces

I babysat Adrianna on Tuesday. Tanya wanted to go to Kenny Pawski's first appearance on his vehicular homicide charge. He was booked and released and got his court appointed attorney.
Adrianna was just fine for me.

It just seemed so wrong today. Mom had her second cataract surgery. We left the clinic at 4:45p.m. which put us in the beginning of rush hour traffic. We were able to use the carpool lane. There was no one in that lane but us for quite a ways. So we got to cruise along at 55 mph while the other two lanes were creeping along. We figured the state patrol must have been cracking down on single drivers using the carpool lane since it was so empty. So we were back to our town within half an hour. While it felt wrong using the carpool lane, I'm not complaining about our short commute.

Elizabeth and I attended the last concert in our series. We were truly amazed at this group of kids playing violins. Especially the little bitty kids. What natural talent they must have. We enjoyed the youth choir and several of the songs. They did a number that won a local award for a teenager. We didn't like it. Elizabeth thought the music was "violent" and I thought it would go good with a slasher movie.

Myk and Cassie have moved back in with us for awhile. It is all right, but I already miss the peace and quiet. Ah well I will be an empty nester again someday. I knew this was going to happen when Mittens came to stay for awhile.

Garden

Yesterday it was 60 degrees here. Makes me feel like gardening. Now it is much too soon, but we can start thinking about it. I went to Fred Meyers and picked up my seed. That leaves the little plants, onion sets and seed potatoes yet to get.

Why

Thursday was my Elizabeth day. We try to go out for dinner every other week. Sometimes we eat at home. Anyway while we were eating out she wanted to know why I cook so much. What she wanted to know was why I cook from scratch so much. So I tried to explain to her that food from scratch tastes better and is better for you. I also touched on the cheaper aspect. I'm not against prepackaged food as a rule. I just don't use a lot of them. I want my lasagne, not some frozen substitute. I love homemade macaroni and cheese. Kraft just does not compare. At my house we eat vegetables and not just ones from cans (that was what started the conversation...why I don't use cans). In the summer those veggies come from the garden. I guess I want my food to taste good.

Gratitude

I'm grateful for friends who will go for a walk with me. Jodi and Zach have taken up the slack while Dave is out of town. Today we walked over to the park where they have this climbing rock. Elizabeth and Zach climbed it. Zach was more than willing to jump off it, but his mom said no. Elizabeth had to think about it long and hard and then did finally jump.

Eye Update

I had another eye dr. appt. today. This time they did another computerized test to measure the back of my eye. The doc said it is looking better. The lesion is smaller and the thickening less. So that means it wasn't my imagination that I seem to be seeing things better that are close to me. Still have a good fuzzy spot looking out while I'm driving, but maybe that will get better in time also. Then to top off my appt. I got another injection. The numbing shot bothered me a bit more than last time, but everything else was fine. And this time I only look hungover with really bloodshot eye. I'm not devilish this time. I go again at the beginning of April for the third of my three shot series. Then we play it by ear.

New Friends

This is Mittens. She belongs to Cassie and Myk. She is spending a few days with us.
This is Marseilles. We have almost always had more than one cat. Well last winter we lost one of our old time cats, leaving us with one. And we never got another one. We figured that when the time was right one would come. Well I guess the time is right. Last night I was playing with Mittens and then tried to figure out how she got out. Then I realized it was a bigger cat outside. When I tried to show Dave, there was no cat. Then we went to bed. I heard a noise on the deck and thought our cat wanted in. Nope. It was this cat literally pounding on the window with her front paws wanting in. She was very very hungry. All day today she has ate and slept. Hasn't wanted to go outside or anything. I'll keep a watch out for lost fliers and check the lost and found in the newspaper. But I think we just increased our household by one cat. Oh and she purrs a lot. Guess she conquered me. :) One last thought is that she loves Sebastion's condo.
