House?

I have this crazy idea running around in my head.  Perhaps instead of renting for a long time it may be time to check into creative financing and buy a house.
After three months in Mom's house, I have discovered that I don't want it.  Even if it became mine.  I really dislike the layout although not as much as I dislike the rental house's layout.  So I am definitely revamping my long term plans.
Looking online I can get a mortgage for almost the same payment as rent.  So I need to consider it and check further.  It does seem silly to rent when I can buy.  The only drawback is I would be responsible for my own upkeep/repairs.
We shall see if this idea bares fruit.
