35 Years
So much to tell. It has been 35 years since I graduated from Evergreen High School. Lori hosted the reunion event at the Royal Oaks Country Club. Let me start by saying I have lived in Clark County since I was 11 years-old and had never been to the Royal Oaks. It's a nice place.
There were about 70 of us at the reunion. Some, of course, were spouses. I was sitting with Jane and her friend and we kept watch on the door seeing who we recognized. At first it was slow, but we did manage to recognize quite a few. For Jane and I , none of the people we were friends with attended. We ended up looking at the yearbook and reminiscing. Pointed out "our people". She and I ran in totally different crowds. And neither of us were in the popular crowd, the jock crowd or the smart crowd.
Our table for dinner had open seats so Tommy Tutone and his man Alex Hart sat with us for dinner. Tommy told us how 1982 was a good year as his oldest daughter was born that year. What a lovely thing to share. I noticed he and the ever exquisite Michelle had a conversation. Michelle always wanted to be a singer so after her kids were grown...that is what she is doing. After dinner Tommy did a little show for us and naturally sang his hit "867-5309 (Jenny)".
Alex Hart was a treat. He was funny and entertaining. He had stories to tell. He didn't graduate with us but he was there having fun nonetheless. It is a perk of whatever his job is. I was never quite sure what it was exactly that he did.
There was a magician who was amazing. Somehow he took my ring that I gave him and it ended up on his keyring in his back pocket. He brought out a bottle of wine in a napkin. Just amazing little tricks. He was funny.
I had moments with some of my classmates that I never talked to in high school. In high school Terri had done an exchange thing one summer and came back to school with a nose ring. Now this was long before it was the cool thing to do. I was so impressed and thought it was just the coolest thing. So 35 years later I told her how cool I had thought it was.
Michelle remembered me right off and we talked about her love of horses...she rode when we were in high school. Then she told me her dream of singing. It is nice being remembered by someone with such grace as she has.
I asked Brad where his brother was. We went to school together a long time. He and his brother are twins, but Brian is not on facebook so he can't be stalked that way. We talked about Brad's broken leg from a few years ago and his construction business.
Another Brian remembered me as being quiet. Oh yes, I was quiet and still am unless I put myself out there. So immediately I open my mouth and insert foot with him. I think it was all right. I looked him up after the reunion and we should have talked about his kids...who are close to the age mine are (I think).
Lisa and Lisa (must have been a popular name) chatted with me. One of them lived in my neighborhood. And they both looked really good. I chatted with Cindy and always remember her more as Kim's friend.
Desi came over and I asked her about the change in living in Stevenson to living in LA. She is taking her fashion designing to the next level. Good for her.
I met Charles, Gerry, Tim, Oliver and Brett. I actually got Brett out on the dance floor for a bit. And yes, I danced. Not in my comfort zone at all, but I did it anyway.
I still have no clue how that guy got Lori's tutu and wore it on his head. He said he wasn't part of our class, so must have been a spouse. And obviously one with a sense of humor.
It really was a lot of fun and I had a great time. I am glad when the announcement came up for buying our ticket...that I forced myself to immediately send Lori the check....that way I could not talk myself out of it. If I pay...I'm going.
Thank you Lori for hosting. Thanks Pat for babysitting.
